SINGAPORE (MNI) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner
suggested he saw no need for the U.S. dollar to decline further against
the euro and the yen, saying these currencies were “roughly in
alignment.”

Geither said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he wants
G20 countries to establish “norms” on exchange rate policy and will work
to persuade fellow leaders the U.S was not deliberately devaluing the
dollar.

“Right now, there is no established sense of what’s fair,” he was
cited as saying. “We would like countries to move toward a set of norms
on exchange rate policy.”

His comments were published ahead of meetings of finance ministers
and central bank governors from the Group of 20 starting Friday Friday
in Gyeongju, South Korea.
