Emerging market stockmarkets remain in turmoil as the global slowdown and plummeting oil prices take their toll. Trading in Kuwaiti stocks was halted today after a court ordered its closure to protect investors from further losses. The bourse’s main index has fallen 31% this year. The market will stay closed until Nov 17th, when the court will sit again to consider whether to extend the suspension. Meanwhile Russian stocks plunged again, prompting a 30-minute trading suspension. At one stage stocks were down as much as 17% before recovering to around 9% lower after trading resumed. Elsewhere Poland’s main index fell around 4% after 3 of the countries biggest energy companies missed earnings estimates.
