After watching his poll numbers sink, Obama has backed off his strident tone regarding the debt debate but is still clinging to his “balanced approach” mantra of tax hikes, an approach even Senate Leader Harry Reid has abandoned.
So far, nothing new from Obama and no plan of his own, other than holding for tax hikes.
Obama calls raising the debt ceiling “routine”.
Bullfeathers. It is ALWAYS used to embarrass the sitting president. (Obama himself voted against hiking the ceiling during his brief stint in the Senate).
The debt ceiling was raised 18 times during the Regan administration, Obama points out…That’s more than twice a year. Obama would have us believe that a six-month extension in the debt ceiling while further negotiation takes place would be devastation. Please. (Just like Geithner told us markets would crash today without a deal. Nice call, Tim).
Obama desperately wants to extend the debt limit passed the next election, full stop. Forget any protestations about it being for the good of the country.
