Outgoing President Klaus will be impeached for treason over a January prisoner amnesty. He will be tried by the country’s constitutional court, according to two Senators cited by Reuters.

In a grand gesture in January as his term began to wind down, The president pardoned all convicts with prison terms under one year. The more controversial part was that he stopped ongoing criminal proceedings that have lasted longer than eight years. This raised eyebrows because several high profile fraud and embezzlement cases — possibly with political connections — fall under that umbrella.

The Czech Republic is not part of the eurozone.
