Japanese markets are closed today for the Autumnal equinox holiday.

The only economic data point of much significance is the Chinese HSBC Manufacturing PMI (flash reading) for September, due at 0145GMT. Expected is a big jump to 50.9 from 50.1 prior.

The big news so far today has been the German election result, where early reports that Merkel was perhaps going to be able to govern in her own right have not played out, the likely result now is a coalition with SPD.
