Shiseido is one of the worlds largest cosmetics companies and their president Shinzo Maeda says that there will be a rush of buying as people front run the sales tax next spring. He also sees Japan clearly exiting deflation. Of his own business he says that demend is switching to high end products and that demand from China hasn’t fully recovered.
It’s something we need to watch out for early next year as if the pre-sales tax business increases it could distort the economic data. Any increases in demand could be wiped out a couple of months after the tax comes in.
