The head of Japan’s weather forecaster division warned that a typhoon heading towards southern Japan could be one of the strongest typhoons in history.

Super typhoon Neoguri poses a threat to life on the islands of Okinawa says Satoshi Ebihara and has urged people to refrain from non-essential outdoor activities.

Winds of over 160mph are expected as it moves through the islands and up into the main land.

Two nuclear power plants have been shut down as part of normal national policy. There’s also a big US military presence in Okinawa.
