Not sure if this qualifies as overnight press, but it is from late yesterday (my time), in the Wall Street Journal.

  • Reserve Bank of Australia Gov. Glenn Stevens on Tuesday appeared to leave open the possibility of further interest-rate cuts, but said the current record-low rate was appropriate for now.
  • Stevens was asked whether the benchmark interest rate of 2.5% was low enough … “I still maintain up to this point we are doing what can reasonably be done,” he said. “If there’s more that can reasonably be done at some point, then obviously we will do that.”

Here’s the journal article (gated)

Here are the headlines from Stevens’s speech and Q&A yesterday:

If you read the full text of his speech he also didn’t explicitly rule out the possibility he would convert to Buddhism if circumstances warranted it. Or have a meat pie for dinner.
