RBA Governor Stevens appears before a parliamentary committee, the House of Representatives’ Standing Committee on Economics. This is a semi-annual event for Stevens. It starts at 2330GMT.

Expect questions on the budget, housing and house prices, the high AUD, the unemployment rate (now at a 12-year high of 6.4%), and the level of the cash rate compared with other countries. TD Securities head of Asia Pacific research Annette Beacher hopes the committee hearing is not “hijacked by politicians with irrelevant questions”. (Spoiler alert – the committee hearing will feature plenty of politicians with irrelevant questions).
