- The current government, led by Samaras holds a razor-thin 155 majority in the 300-seat parliament
- A presidential vote will be held in three rounds, the third round is on Dec 29
- The government needs 200 votes in the first two rounds (unlikely) or 180 votes in the third (still possible) for a new President
- If the vote fails, parliament must be dissolved within 10 days
- An election would take place about four weeks after Parliament is dissolved (early Feb)
