• China Statistics Bureau to revise 2013 GDP higher by just over 3%

That’s the gist of a headline on both Bloomberg and Reuters

Quoting Ma Jiantang at a breifing. He is head of China’s National Bureau of Statistics

  • Says its in relation to new methods to count R&D expenditures and measure housing expenses to bring both more in line with internationally accepted standards

Meanwhile, MNI have an alternative take on the comment:

  • GDP for 2013 will be revised by 3% of its total value,
  • Revision will be announced December 19
  • Ma didn’t say if the revision will be up or down

(MNI goes on to say that last year the NBS surprised by revising GDP downwards for the first time. It reduced 2012 GDP growth to 7.7% from 7.8%. Previous revisions were up).
