BOJ governor Kuroda still on the wires, it's been three hours!

  • Says that he only said an exit strategy may be debated if inflation reaches 2% target during fiscal year 2019, as is projected now
  • Didn't mean that exit strategy will start as soon as fiscal year 2019

In case you need a refresher, his comments on Friday here caused a bit of a stir in the market - when he said that the BOJ is "considering exit strategy around fiscal year 2019".

Kuroda has been known to overstep and then backtrack on his comments, and it's something that was highlighted here on Friday as well.

Further comments by Kuroda:

  • Not sure whether appropriate to use forward guidance too much to guide interest rates to a certain direction
  • Rate policy will depend on the path of economy, prices

And he's done for the day! Don't worry, folks. He'll be back at it again on Friday when the BOJ announces its monetary policy decision for this month.
