YoY HPI 8.7% vs 9.1% last month
The Canada Teranet/National Bank HPI for the month of January came in at 0.3% vs 0.2% gain last. The YoY fell to 8.7% from 9.1%.
- The index rose to 219.19 from 217.49
- The move higher was the 2nd consecutive increase
- Only 4 of the 11 metropolitan markets showed gains. This was the 1st since January 2016 that arise in the composite index has had so little breadth.
- Vancouver by the gains with a 1.2% rise in January after a 1.3% rise in December
- Toronto also rose by 0.2%,the Victoria index increased by 1% and the Montréal index moved up by 0.1
- Hamilton -0.2%, Ottawa -0.2%, Edmonton -0.3%, Calgary -0.3%, Halifax -1%, Winnipeg -1.1%, and Québec city -2.0%
- Montréal has increased for 13 consecutive months
- Hamilton has declined for 5 straight months
- The rise in the Toronto index was a 1st in the last 6 months
The USDCAD is higher but I get the feeling it is because of the rise in the US CPI ; ) .
The price is above the 100 day MA at 1.26186.
