Chinese premier Li Keqiang still on the wires

  • Says a trade war would not benefit anyone
  • Hopes that the two sides can keep calm and avoid a trade war
  • China and US should be rational over trade issues
  • Says that China does not hope to see relatively big trade surplus with the US
  • Hopes that US is to relax high-tech exports to China
  • Says that China has been a reasonable long-term investors of the US and its forex reserves
  • Stable relations between the two countries is good for the world

Despite the agenda being more local, Li is trying to offer some form of compromise with his words to the US on the trade front.

And he's highlighting the fact on China's US Treasuries purchases in the past - though it has been declining over recent years.

Wonder if Trump will gesture with a toast back to Li? Hmm. Wouldn't bet on it though.
