He was arrested on corruption charges yesterday but said he wouldn't step down. Looks like the decision was made for him.

Rimsevics was held for more than two days on bribery allegations. The ECB said it's doing due diligence.

There is an ECB meeting on Wednesday and it's unknown if Rimsevics will turn up. The terms of his bail prevent him from performing his duties however EU rules say a central bank leader can only be removed if he's unable to perform his duties or has been convicted.

Latvia is a money-laundering hub and Rimsevics has led the central bank since 2001 and was the deputy governor starting in 1992.

Update: Latvia's finance minister says Rimsevics can't attend ECB meetings and he can't leave the country.
