We have a special guest today during the Asian timezone - Robert Kaplan, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas will be speaking

But, from the top:

2200GMT - New Zealand - ANZ Job ads for August

  • prior -1.0%

2300GMT - Kaplan speaks at a business event in Dallas

0000GMT - Japan - wages data for July

  • Labor Cash earnings expected 0.5% y/y, prior 0.4%
  • Real cash earnings expected 0.0% change y/y, prior -0.1%

0100GMT - Bank of Japan JGB purchases, in the 5 to 10 year maturity window today

0130GMT - Australia Q2 GDP will be the main focus today

  • expected 0.9% q/q, prior 0.3%
  • expected 1.9% y/y, prior 1.7%

Those y/y rates are not too hot, but Q2 is expected to be an improvement on Q1 nonetheless. Expectations have been revised up following the strong export data out just yesterday. The risk would appear to be to the topside for these figures.

0230GMT - Reserve Bank of Australia - Alex Heath, Head of Economic Analysis, speaking at the Economic Society of Australia, Tasmania

So, these are the scheduled events. I guess we should also be on the watch for unscheduled events in Asia today too (yes, I'm, lookin' at you, North Korea)
