BRUSSELS (MNI) – Greece is expected to complete in the next few
days technical talks aimed at securing a vital tranche of aid from the
European Commission, European Central Bank and the International
Monetary Fund, which oversee its bailout programme, a spokesman for the
Commission said on Monday.

“What we’re hoping is that we can get a technical agreement at
staff level in the next few days,” the spokesman said. “That is what we
are planning to achieve.”

Eurozone finance ministers have not scheduled any discussions on
Greece before their regular meeting on November 12, but a meeting in
Brussels or teleconference could be scheduled at short notice if
necessary, the spokesman said.

Without the next tranche of aid, worth E31.5 billion, the Greek
government will run out of cash to pay its bills by mid-November, Greek
officials have warned.

EU leaders last Thursday night praised Greece’s recent progress on
implementing tough fiscal and structural reforms but urged it to
maintain the momentum and honour its commitments.
