  • Alex Van Der Zwaan accused of lying about talks with Gates

A weekend report from the LA Times said Manafort's right-hand man Rick Gates has flipped and is providing information to Mueller. He will plead guilty in the coming days.

The FBI says Van Der Zwaan lied to investigators.

He "did willfully and knowingly make materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements and representations," according to the charges.

The charges say Van Der Zwaan denied talking with Gates and 'Person A' but he had surreptitiously recorded the call. He's also accused of deleting an email sought by the special council.

Van Der Zwaan is a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP & Affiliates in London. He is the son-in-law of Russian oligarch German Khan.

Van Der Zwaan's name comes up in many stories regarding corruption and theft in Ukraine.

The charges on Friday contributed to the slump in stocks late.
