An official from Japan's Ministry of Finance with some comments

"Looks like we got caught, mate"

Says that 14 items had been altered in the documents relating to the suspected cronyism scandal involving finance minister Taro Aso. Adding that the finance ministry division has instructed changes to the documents to match testimony in parliament.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance announce that Aso will be holding a press conference at 0505 GMT - no details given about what it may be about, but I'm guessing it's not particularly good news for the man.

Aso has been a key figure in prime minister Abe's work to drive Abenomics, so if he is to step down then it'll be a tough task to replace him with someone who will be able to work well with the BOJ and shares the same vision with Abe himself.
