CNBC report

Larry Kudlow is the leading contender to lead the economic team at the White House and would take the job if offered, according to CNBC's Jim Cramer.

Kudlow is a long-time CNBC commentator and pretty much a stock comic caricature of a free-markets evangelist.

To me, this article sounds more like lobbying than a real scoop. However there is no doubt the market would prefer Kudlow to some of the other names floating around.

"When the now-infamous Donald Trump-Billy Bush audio feed was released, my confidence in Trump all but evaporated," Kudlow once said.

Here he is on inflation in 2008:

"A simple gold forecast model of future inflation has only missed by three-tenths of 1 percent over the past six years as the CPI has roughly doubled from 2 percent to 4 percent.

What's ahead? The model predicts nearly 6 percent inflation in 2008 and 7.5 percent inflation in 2009 and 2010. After that, inflation falls back to 6.5 percent in 2011 and 5.5 percent in 2012.

The point is, the inflation outlook is worsening."
