Nasdaq closes with gains but Dow and S&P close with declines

The major stock indices are ending the session with mixed results.

The Nasdaq is ending the session up but the S&P and Dow are lagging and closed lower on the day.

The price action was down and up. The market got an afternoon boost on news that the proposed tariffs may exempt Canada, Mexico and other countries (not beginning with the letters "C-h-i-n-a"?) for national security purposes.

The summary:

  • The S&P is ending down -1.32 points or -0.05% at 2726.80
  • The Nasdaq closed up 24.64 points or +0.33% at 7396.648
  • The Dow fared the worst with a decline of -82.76 or -0.33% at 24801.36

Although the results were mixed, each were well off their lows.

  • The S&P was down about -25 points at the lows
  • The Nasdaq was down about -61 points at the lows
  • The Dow was down about -360 points at the lows
