NEW YORK (MNI) – The nation’s largest employers increased their
online recruitment activity in the Sept. 11 week, according to MNI’s
U.S. job openings indicator which rose to 11.0 vs -10.4 in the prior
week.

The gain in the latest week lifts the four-week average to 3.1 from
unchanged.

Positive readings indicate that a greater share of the nation’s
largest employers are increasing their online recruitment rather than
decreasing recruitment.

The industries showing the most significant positive trends are
leisure & hospitality followed by retail.

Industries showing the most significant negative trends are
utilities followed by information.

MNI’s indicator tracks individual job listings on a weekly basis
from a sample of 500 of the nation’s largest employers, a group that
employs a total of 19.7 million U.S. workers.

Job openings in the latest week total 228,300, or 1.2% of the
sample’s total U.S. employment.

Editor’s Note: MNI compiles its job openings indicator by tracking
career sections of company websites producing a diffusion index that
measures distribution of change.
