First Party leader Peters speaking to reporters a short while ago 17 Oct

  • there is serious consensus on policy work but not on final outcome
  • discussions still need to be had with Labour and National parties
  • First Party board members returning home after two days of meeting
  • the board and caucus has spent a couple of days on "very comprehensive discussions and preparations" for the party to make a final decision.
  • the board's work is complete at this point but more work needs to be done on "differences of calculations" and other things before they finalise a decision.

Bloomberg reporting from an article on stuff.co.nz and we've seen a drop in NZD since with NZDUSD down to 0.7160 from 0.7180

I've previously reported the balance of power now held by Winston Peters and his First Party. The final election tally was:

  • National Party 44.4%
  • Labour Party 36.9 %
  • New Zeland First Party 7.2%
  • Green 6.3%

That gives the National Party 56 seats with a possible Labour-Green coalition on 54 leaving the nationalist First Party holding the balance of power with 9 seats, losing 2 to the Labour/Green bloc compared with preliminary results.61 seats are required for a majority in the NZ parliament.

NZDUSD currently finding a little support around 0.7160
