PM May's spokesman out on the wires with daily presser 22 Jan

Another day, same old mantras

The comment comes in response to the CBI's appeal to stay in the customs union in any Brexit deal.

Adds the PM's spokesman:

  • Britain has got positive feedback from countries on post -Brexit trade deals.

Let's hope so, Certainly some move conciliatory tones of late from Macron and others. I voted for Leave in the belief that the UK would benefit in the longer term. I stand by that view. The clock is ticking still to March 2019 exit and there's plenty to be sorted out yet.

Transition period of unknown period will only add to the uncertainty but by then hopefully we will know the essentials at least.

Meanwhile GBP suitably unfazed by any of it. GBPUSD 1.3902 EURGBP 0.8815 GBPJPY 153.90 in today's snooze-fest.
