The major US stock indices are ending the session higher, but well off the highs.

• The S&P index rose by 3.91 points or 0.14% at 2751.24. The high for the day reached 2761.85 while the low extended to 2749.97
• The NASDAQ index rose by 0.25 points or unchanged on the day at 741.99. The high for the day reached 7514.21, while the low extended 27473.68
• The Dow industrial average rose by 63.89 points or 0.26% at 24937.55. The high for the day reached 25031, while the low extended to 24857.09

For the week, the major indices area ending lower:
