US stocks end mixed. Nasdaq down. S&P little changed. Dow does the best.

But all are way off the highs

The major US stock indices are ending the day mixed.

• The S&P is closing little changed. It rose 2.63 points or 0.10% at 2703.96. That is down from a high of 2731. The low reached 2697.77.
• The Nasdaq index is ending down -8.142 points or -0.11% at 7210.08. The high reached 7280.92. The low extended 7194.84.
• The Dow rose 164.70 points or 0.66% at 24962.48. The high reached at 25156.72. The low extended to 24854.83.
