–House Speaker To Urge Tax Reform, Reg Relief In 1 P.M. Speech
— To Cite ‘Opportunities for Common Ground’ on Jobs
–To Urge Super Committee To Back Lower Corp Rates

WASHINGTON (MNI) – House Speaker John Boehner, in his address to
the Washington Economic Club Thursday afternoon, will urge Congress’
deficit reduction panel to develop a plan for lower corporate tax rates
by closing various loopholes.

In a summary of the 1 p.m. EDT speech released by Boehner’s office,
the Speaker will say that there are “opportunities for common ground”
between President Obama and Congress to boost job growth.

Boehner will continue to push the economic agenda he has
articulated all year: reducing government regulations, cutting
government spending and encouraging lowering corporate tax rates.

The Speaker will urge Congress’ new Deficit Reduction Committee to
stay clear of proposing tax increases to cut the deficit.

Boehner’s central theme will be the call for policies that remove
barriers for new job creation and to focus on long-term policies rather
than “short-term gimmicks.”

Boehner’s speech was scheduled shortly after Obama sought an
invitation to address a Joint Session of Congress last week to outline
new jobs agenda.

The Speaker has said this week that the House will conduct a
“careful examination” of Obama’s new jobs plan and repeated he wants to
work with the president to boost job creation.

But he has also been very critical of Obama’s plan for paying for
the $447 billion package with tax hikes.

Obama’s jobs plan has about $245 billion in tax cuts, $140 billion
in infrastructure spending and about $62 billion in assistance for
unemployed.
