Angela Merkel is awaiting the result of the ballot of potential coalition partner Social Democrats (SPD)
- The vote is a postal ballot
- Of SPD's 464,000 members
- The question is if SPD should go ahead in a coalition government with Merkel's conservative CDU/CSU group
If the vote should fail:
Andrea Nahles, who senior SPD officials this week endorsed as the party's future leader, told Der Spiegel magazine in comments published on Saturday. "I don't have a Plan B."
SPD has been in coalition with Merkel in the past.
