  • Notwithstanding some volatility in the headline seasonally adjusted data, the underlying trend confirms a healthy labour market with a decent pace of monthly employment growth and downward-trending unemployment rate. Slack remains, with underemployment elevated at 8.3%, but it is very slowly reducing. We look for some recovery in employment in September (+25k), with a partial reversal in the drop in unemployed persons in August underpinning a rise in the unemployment rate to 5.2%
