With early results and towel throwing now happening, we need to look towards the market open

Macron and Le Pen look to have won through the first round, as Eamonn has noted, so what do we need to look for now when the market opens?

There's a lot of numbers being bandied about by the interior minister and various exit polls and the like, and the final numbers will be important. EURUSD has just opened up at 1.0859 and so far has hit a high of 1.0923.

From here it will come down to the final numbers that Le Pen and Macron get. If Le Pen gets though with stronger numbers than Macron, that could well limit any gains in the Euro. The market is anticipating Macron winning through in the 2nd, as the polls have indicated all the way through but if Le Pen comes through this round strongly it might sow some seeds of nervousness in the run up to the 2nd round.

EURUSD 15m chart

Again, as Eamonn notes, this is a very illiquid time of the day and a lot of retail platforms aren't open yet so there going to be another flood of moves when they do.
