European leaders know that May is coming to seek legal assurances on the backstop but they are making it clear here that if she asks for more, they will not hesitate to stop her in her tracks.
The issue with all of this is that UK parliament members have made known their grievance on the open-ended backstop for weeks now. You have to wonder at this point if this is May's strategy to wait until the last minute and try to force the EU's hand because both parties would want this to not head towards a no-deal outcome.
