US ECON: Economists at Goldman Sachs say if enacted, the health
reform package released in Congress yesterday should have little fiscal
effect over the next 2-years, followed by modest restraint from 2012 to
2014. Over the longer term, CBO has estimated that the legislation will
reduce the budget deficit by around 0.5% of GDP over the 10- to 20-year
horizon. “The risk to these estimates appears largely legislativei.e.,
that a future Congress will intervene to prevent certain policies from
taking hold, rather than due to the underlying substance of the reform
package.”
