- S&P 500 mini futures ... dropped 0.5 percent in early Asian trade
- MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dropped 0.5 percent
- Japan's Nikkei shed 0.4 percent
- The dollar dropped 0.5 percent to 112.64 yen
- The dollar's index against a basket of six major currencies dropped to 98.063
- Other traditional safe-haven assets were also well bid
- The Swiss franc gained ... the euro ... gold rose 0.5 percent to $1,242.6 per ounce
