- Japanese government move to give the least-paid workers their second-biggest raise in the past 20 years
- A labor ministry council called for lifting the national average minimum wage to 780 yen ($7.59), up 16 yen from the previous fiscal year
- Japan’s 47 prefectures will set their own rates, which will take effect around October
- Tokyo, Osaka and a handful of other heavily populated areas will see the biggest hike — 19 yen. This will bring the wage floor in the nation’s capital to 888 yen.
