Fed's Rosengren Q&A: Hard to see the FOMC hiking too rapidly

Author: Adam Button | Category: Central Banks

We might be two weeks away from seeing the Fed hike too rapidly

Rosengren was fairly mum in the Q&A but he certainly didn't back off the hawkish talk but it's more theoretical than a strong signal.

  • "As long as the economy is moving in the direction that it's been recently I think the probability of a recession is actually quite low"
  • "The biggest policy mistake that causes recession is when we have to raise interest rates very rapidly": Rosengren
  • "We raise it too much and it actually causes a recession. Right now it's pretty hard to see us actually raising it really rapidly to cause that recession"
Kaplan is up in a few minutes at the bottom of the hour. There probably won't be headlines, he's appearing in a moderated Q&A.
