According to unnamed EU diplomats, cited by Reuters

  • Political endorsement lacking in UK on Irish backstop
  • European leaders at summit must be united on Brexit

But the notable thing from the release here is that the EU is claiming that no deal was reached over the weekend because Theresa May's team was pushing for a UK-wide customs agreement. Now that is something the EU also has a problem with as they view that there should not be any UK-wide backstop until the UK officially leaves.

This is also a potential setback for Theresa May really because if she is planning to push forward with such a proposal, this won't go down well with the Tory party. It's all getting a bit messy now and given the context here, expect more rhetoric to be built around a no-deal outcome in the coming days/weeks.
