  • Says that Abenomics will fail if Japan goes through with sales tax hike

Honda was a former finance ministry official and one of the architects of the famed Abenomics back in 2012. He was among the officials at the time who was opposed to raise the sales tax in 2014 and reports suggest that Abe is keeping him in close counsel ahead of the proposed hike this time around.

For some context, Honda moved on from his post in the finance ministry to become the Japanese ambassador to Switzerland. But he recently resigned his latest post, suggesting that he could be returning to be Abe's adviser again.
