Highlights of the June US report on retail sales:
- Prior headline reading was +0.3% (revised to +0.5%)
- Control group +0.6% vs +0.5% exp
- Prior control group 0.0% (revised to +0.2%)
- Sales ex-autos +0.4% vs +0.5% exp
- Prior ex-autos +0.1% (revised to +0.4%)
- Sales rose in 9 of 13 major categories
The headline is poor but it’s not the story. The revisions were very good and the control group beat expectations, this is good news for the US dollar.
