The reading measures the change in total value of new orders placed with Japanese machine tool manufacturers. Of note, total orders fell to just ¥125.4 billion, the weakest level since February 2017. That further indicates the sort of toll the global economic slowdown is having on major economies around the world, and Japan is no exception.
