Nikkei closes flat in tepid trading session for Asian equities
There isn't much clear direction for risk sentiment to start the new day despite more positive tones in Wall Street overnight. US equity futures are trading a little lower on the day and that's not really helping with direction ahead of European trading.
Of note, the Hang Seng index is also trading at flat levels at the moment and that shows the sort of indecision that equity traders are facing at the moment.
Meanwhile, Chinese stocks are weighed lower after industrial production data missed expectations - also the lowest output growth in 17 years. The Shanghai Composite is down by 1% at the moment and the poor data there is also weighing a little on the aussie and kiwi as we gear towards European trading.
