Tokyo's main index closes lower in a softer session for Asian stocks

Nikkei 26-02

Asian equities generally lost steam following gains yesterday as trade optimism begins to fizzle out following the performance seen in US stocks overnight. Japanese stocks underperformed as a result with the Nikkei struggling to break above its 100-day moving average again.

Chinese stocks are the standout performer on the session but it's more of the exception rather than the rule in trading today. US equity futures are also trading slightly softer alongside weaker Treasury yields and that is keeping the Japanese yen underpinned ahead of the European morning session.
