Spelman amendment was a non-binding resolution saying UK won't leave EU without a deal

There was a lot of talk that this one could pass because it was non-binding and tabled by Tory MP Caroline Spelman.

The vote was 318-310 in favour of the amendment. 17 Conservatives voted in favour - Allen, Bebb, Boles, Clarke, Djanogly, Freeman, Greening, Grieve, Gyimah, Lee, Letwin, Sandbach, Soames, Soubry, Stephenson, Vaizey and Wollaston. So mark them down as the soft-Brexit gang.

This was a non-binding vote but it's a good indication that parliament will not allow a no-deal Brexit.

It's an important win on the propaganda front because it demonstrates that Parliament doesn't want a no-deal Brexit. Perhaps that's a given but by the same token, it seems like nothing is a given in the UK lately.

Up next is the Brady amendment. This is one that Theresa May has whipped her party in favour of. It calls for an 'alternative arrangement' on the Irish border backstop. She's hoping to take it to Brussels in the hope that it creates some leverage. They've already indicated that they'll block it.
