This is great news after the non-stop rise. It also goes against the usual weekly trend of higher numbers later in the work week.
The sad news is that there were 1162 deaths, which is just shy of the record 1172 in April.
It's early but either the variant isn't progressing as quickly as feared or curbs are working.
