The ANZ-Roy Morgan Australian Consumer Confidence survey is at deeply pessimistic levels.

ANZ comment:

  • Consumer confidence edged lower last week, and was in deeply negative territory, below 80 for the 14th week in a row.
  • Confidence about future financial conditions fell to its lowest level since the start of the COVID outbreak in late March 2020.

Also in the data is the figure for inflation expectations, which rose to 5.5% this week

  • last week was 5.3%

Last month the average for this index was at its weakest since December of 1990.
