UK Chancellor George Osborne will this morning make a highly reported speech in Scotland telling the voters in the forthcoming independence referendum that they will not be able to keep the pound should they break away.

In a relatively unprecedented move, seen as putting pressure on the Yes voters, the coalition Liberal Democrats and opposition Labour party will release supporting statements at the same time.

There is of course more than a chance that the perceived pressure/interference will only add to Scottish resolve regardless.

In a recent speech BOE governor Carney warned that it would be very difficult to see how a currency union would work.
