That’s Monday for anyone reading this later in the day/night!

A spokesman for the Russian energy ministry says they will meet tomorrow evening in Brussels to try and resolve the dispute over price.

The story so far:

  • Ukraine and Russia differ on how much Ukraine’s state energy company, Naftogaz, has to pay for the gas
  • Ukraine disagrees with Russia’s hike to $485 per 1000 cubic metres that came into effect on April 1 after pro-Russian Ukrainian president Yanukovich fled after the uprising
  • Russia’s Gazprom and Naftogaz met for two days in Berlin last week to try and settle a dispute that could threaten gas supplies to Europe.Gazprom extended the deadline for Ukraine to pay its bills
  • No payment by June 10 and Russia has said it would cut off gas flows to Ukraine, a major tranist route to the EU.

On Friday Russia president Putin had talks with Ukraine’s new president Poroshenko at the D Day landing 70th anniversary event and said afterwards that Gazprom and Naftogaz were “close to reaching an agreement”

Let’s hope so.
