The people polled by Sankei were not impressed with Abe calling an early election.

More from the poll:

  • 42% say they’ll vote for the LDP (the current government party)
  • 12.7% will vote for the main opposition party, the DPL (remember them?)
  • 4.8% for Komeito (Abe’s coalition partner)

And, as a ps. The Wall Street Journal have an article up on some other polls for the Japanese election, It may be gated, but its here: Japanese Prime Minister Abe Heads Into Election With Wide Lead

it may be gated, but, in brief, citing polls in the Asahi Shimbun & the Nikkei:

  • More than a third … would vote for Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party
  • That was more than three times the level of support for the Democratic Party of Japan
  • Asahi poll – latest approval rating for the Abe cabinet stayed low at 39%, unchanged from its previous survey
  • Nikkei – 51% disapprove of Abe’s efforts to pull the economy out of deflation
  • The results show that support for the 60-year-old prime minister is fragile. His efforts to prop up the economy over the last two years have bolstered profits at many big companies, but ordinary voters complain they haven’t shared the benefits.
