Central bank activity to watch for in the Asian timezone coming up this week – RBA meeting on Tuesday & speeches all week

Author: Eamonn Sheridan | Category: Central Banks

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) meets on Tuesday (local time) for their July monetary Policy meeting. There isn’t a huge amount to preview on this meeting, expectations amongst surveyed economists are unanimous that there will be no change in monetary policy; the cash rate will remain at 2.5%. Attention will turn to the accompanying statement as we try to divine meaning from the lines and between the lines. I’ll have a fuller preview as we approach the meeting.

Also from the RBA this week is a feast of speeches:

  • 2 July 2014 1105GMT BST – Guy Debelle, Assistant Governor (Financial Markets), is giving a speech to the Financial Times Camp Alphaville Conference, London
  • 3 July 2014 0100GMT – Speech by Glenn Stevens, Governor of the RBA to the Australian Conference of Economists (ACE) and the Econometric Society Australasian Meeting in Hobart, Australia. He’ll need his wooly undies on for a trip to Hobart in July …. brrrr.
  • 4 July 2014 0340GMT – Speech by Luci Ellis, Head of Financial Stability Department, to the 2014 Economic and Social Outlook Conference in Melbourne, Australia. And ditto on the woolly undies.
Glenn Stevens will also need something to keep his head warm in Hobart 29 June 2014
