Commenting on the coal fracas, yesterday Dalian port banned import of Australian coal.

I posted more just here a few minutes ago:

More from ScoMo:

  • should not jump to conclusion on report
  • sees nothing to suggest the move on coal was out of normal
  • not the first time China has delayed coal, nothing new

Of most surprise to me is ScoMo is still PM. Go figure.

ps.

ANZ had this to say earlier (in a nutshell):

  • We believe recent restrictions and quotas on Chinese coal imports have been misconstrued.
  • These restrictions are not new. Chinese authorities have been adjusting import quotas for some time, in an effort to balance domestic and international coal consumption.
  • The recent sudden surge in imports may have instigated these latest restrictions. Total coal imports in January rose 228% m/m to 33.5mt. Inventories also remain at elevated levels, and international prices high.
