Round and round we go. For Theresa May to win favours from parliament, she needs to push forward with a deal that requires a time-limited backstop. Meanwhile, for her to get European leaders to the negotiating table, the backstop has to be an open-ended period instead.
This remains the key sticking point in Brexit talks and will continue to be ahead of Wednesday's summit in Brussels.
